Siebren Miedema (Born on November 17, 1949 in Weidum, in the Province of Friesland, the northern part of the Netherlands) is the editor/author of 42 books, and has published 270 articles and chapters dealing with pragmatism, critical pedagogy, hermeneutical pedagogy, history of education, early childhood education, philosophy of the social sciences, methodology, and religious education in Dutch, German, English, Japanese, French and Turkish, 13 abstracts, 166 professional publications including book reviews, and 30 publications in national and regional newspapers. Next to numerous interviews and contributions to radio and television programs. He gave 237 (mostly invited) national and international lectures.

At the moment his main research topic in religious education is religious identity formation of young children and youngsters, combined with the topic of the identity of (denominational) schools.

Currently he is Full Professor in Educational Foundations, including the Philosophy of Religious Education in the Faculty of Psychology and Education, Department Theory and Research in Education, VU University Amsterdam.
